DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE

The Department of Community Medicine commenced functioning at Medical College Calicut in the Year 1959 and has been a major contributor to the public health scenario in Kerala State especially North Kerala. Apart from teaching , training clinical and research activities , the department also assists with planning and implementation of various public health programs in the State .Special inputs are made in epidemic situations and for the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups .

Medical College Health Unit Cheruppa was established in 1963 at Cheruppa to provide Rural Field practice training to all students. The post graduate MD Program,affiliated to the University of Calicut was started in 1978 and has produced dedicated and skilled public health professionals serving around the country and abroad. An Urban Health Centre was commissioned in June 2000 to strengthen services to an urban populace.
